paper:

-as of yesterday i finished my internship!!

-mr creep still insists on petting my hair and finding any excuse to talk to me. hilarious

-i cut out all the articles i wrote...53!! dang. :)

-its very different then what i expected...i learned that alot of the papers in this town are bought by the government so they only run political things that benefit the govt. the paper i wrote for has very lil journalists so alot of the stories are simply based on press releases of radio interviews (which is what i did)

-i got the certificate certifying that in fact interned there

children:

-they're adorable.

-I FINALLY WON ANIE OVER! thank goodness. she gave me a few glares and hit me a lil bit but thennnnn out of no where she came up to me gave me a lil kiss and hugged my leg and dragged me over somewhere to play with her. then her and juan were trying to "fly" on their parents bed so i took pictures and after every one they kept begging more and kept saying "uno mas y no jodemos mas" hahah hilarious

-then i read them both a bedtime story but juan was being mean to anie so anie let me take her to her bed and then my cousin and i sang her a bedtime song and she fell asleep.

-then yesterday we took them to the book fair. and they both volunteered to hold my hand. sooo cute. and then juan was practicing tkd so he was kicking me. so i showed him how to make the kicks stronger for his personal reference. then he proceeded to keep hitting me until he finally stopped.

-theyre coming over today for my goodbye bbq

observations:

-shopping irony...if you wanna hear this story lemme know and ill share but im not posting it here

-alot of ppl in this town work for the municipalidad (idk how to translate this...but like for the government) and pretty much they get paid to sit there for 8 hours a day doing nothing. so the subsecretaries are really unorganized here bc everyone is too lazy to actually work.

-my cousin told me that all the guys in this town are either taken, married, or wash outs. interesting.

-people drive like CRAZIES its terrifying cars just come out out of no where!

-when i went to the book fair i recognized someone from the paper and they recognized me too! i felt really special

-ive totally gotten used to having wine with my meals.

wellllllll thats about it. i think.

tomorrow i leave for buenos aires. its been decided that ill be living with everyone of my family there, they're gonna share me. :)

and tomorrow or tuesday my cousins are gonna go with me to get my tattooo! wooo!

updates:

trip to caleta olivia:
-8 hour freaking bus ride there
-there were alot of animals
-it was in hte middle of no where
-we stayed in a hostel that was totally gross and shady..fun stuff
-my aunts choir sings beautifully
-we then went to eat at midnight
-then we went to a jazz bar for a bit
-we had to walk up super early to drive back...another 8 hours.

lil anie still isnt a fan of me. my aunt wanted a picture with me and the two kids..anie looks at me and says NOOO not you. i dont want you in the picture
shes got SUCH an attitude..and shes 2. oo boy.
at least her brother likes me.

wednesday my cousin told me shes gonna take me shopping in the center. should be fun. she told me there are two places i have to see and buy somtehing from before i leave. (a leather store to buy shoes and a lingery store that she says is amazing..we´ll see hah)

glacier adventure:
okay os theyre beautiful. the moutains are to die for and the glacier..ommmmmg. gorgeous.
my aunt walks WAY to fast for me tho.
we had to climb a bunch of stairs and stuff...shes basically running and im taking my time being normal me whining and bitching about how its tiring..lol. so she concluded that im terribly out of shape and that that is really bad.
there was also snow!
and i saw condors!!! theyre huge.
and flamingos!?? i dindt know flamingos lived in cold temperatures...
i havent seen any penguins tho which is sad..

were staying in a really pretty hotel. but alone is kinda not as fun.
theres a pool, and a sweet shower that shoots water in all diretions and a suana. very nice

there is also a really good pasta restaurant of home made pastas...i had gnoccis. DELISH as usual.
my aunt and uncle then took me a cafe pub place where we had "special coffees".
i totally like this whole not getting carded thing.
also on the menu i saw absinthe (or however you spell it) incredibly expensive though.

i also see alot of knives in stores.they look really BA
and alot of gnomes...theres a legand of gnomes here. theres this speical gnome that shows up unexpected and does nice things.

k well. thats the end.
i leave for buenos aires this coming sunday so thatll be a new adventure.

currently im at the local paper. i have no assignments at the moment so i thought id take advantage of this down time and blog what ive been up to lately.

To be perfectly honest, when im not eating lunch/dinner, hanging with family, or at work i get kinda bored.

Im only here for 10 more days though so its okay. after that ill be in buenos aires where hopefully ill be living with my cousin so ill get a good feel for young life in buenos aires which should be very exciting.



lets see...what can i update on.

well at work today one of my coworkers informed me that i have to wear my hair down all the time bc it looks soo good and so much better than when its in a bun. apparently when its in a bun you cant tell that i have crazy long wild hair and apparently the wild look works better for me. good to know good to know.
oooh and he just asked me how old i was...i say 20 and hes like oooooooh i thought you were older and walked away.
it was hilarious.

i just finished writing and transcribing a really long article about the importance of recicling and this group of ppl that traveled in a car fueled by vegetable oil from canada to chile slash argentina in the city that im currently in. very interesting.
now im waiting for my editor to come back so im blogging.

i also noticed a few differences with this paper and the daily.
first of all the repeat stories here alot like prepreview, preview, cover, postcover....all pretty much saying the same thing which i dont see the point in but whatevs. they also have ALOT of car accident stories that take up full pages. and they have this lil section where the locals can send in pictures of them or them with thier families and it runs as a picture collection thing.
the paper is also really small staff wise, which i think i mentioned before.

last night my aunt had a dinner party with a few of her friends. it made me really miss my mom. bc she ALWAYS has dinner parties with random ppl and stuff. soooooooo i went upstairs and skyped with her for an hour. i think i got really home sick. cuz as much as i enjoy it here. when im not at work, or with the lil babies, with my cousin, eating, or talking with my aunt or uncle i get really really bored. i just sit around unmotivated. o well.
in 10 days ill be in buenos aires. im hoping there ill get a feel for youth life cuz here its pretty much gp and i get a glimpse of what married life is for empty nesters and for lil kiddies, or married reporters...but no idea what its like for collegeage ppl here.

tomorrow im going on a 9 hour drive with my aunt cousin and their chior. ill be in charge or probs writing an article about it and taking pictures and recording for my aunt.
hopefully itll be fun!

then the 25 is the bicentenial of the country! wooo. (tho im fed up with news about it bc almost every story i write is about things done in the name of it. blah blah) anyway.hopefully ill be at th glaciers for that!!


i also decided that lil anie is very very much like me.

time to update.

family:

-lil ana (2 year old cousin) started to refuse to give me kisses once again. now instead of kisses she hits me and runs away...then i chase her and try and tickle her, she giggles and then hits me again and denys me kisses.

-i played catch with juan cruz (5 years old) he totally won..i have zero hand eye coordination..at least he got something to laugh at (me haha)

-i helped romi (my married cousin and mother of the above two) go on some erronds..it was fun fun got to catch up with her. i also helped her iwth her chior today.

the kids in the choir asked if i knew famous ppl bc im from teh usa and then asked me to say things in differnet languages. and then i had to sing...the kids suggested my cousin make me sing alone...that didnt happen. but i did sing.. HUGE D.

-my uncle dani quizzed me on random world facts

-my aunt ines gives me wine everynight i come back from working...so great.

-prob more stories but im getting tired its almost one here

-i watched finding nemo with the kids...in spanish. it was weird.

oooh on that note. juan cruz was watching dora the explorer..it was HILARIOUS bc the parts where in english she speaks spanish...they speak english in this version and the normal part is obviously in spanish. so dora teaches english to spanish kids and spanish to english kids.

theres a wierd issue with gasoline here. the trucks were delayed so when they finally got here the ppl went crazy and waited in line in the 3 gas stations....the lines go on for 3 blocks and go AROUND the block..

i counted one station...about 80 cars. dammmmmn

anyway no gas is an issue to go on a trip expecially when there will be snow...so not safe either. so were gonna wait and go a later date.

first internship experience

why hello!

sooooo. since my last blog i went to a family bbq with delish argentine meat.. yum yum

the children were there, so adorable. the boy, juan cruz, is such a lil meanie to his lil sister, ana ines. they found bugs and ana was freaking out but juan found it really amusing.

also im starting to get into the habit of having a cup of wine with dinner...i like this whole being legal thing.

anyway, before the bbq which started at like 9:30 pm. i went around with my cousin romi and her children as we went to visit one of her friends and had some mate. after that we went to my uncles and had the bbq. we talked about how here in argentina kids that has the possibility of coming back home during the weekends when away at college do. so they asked me if i came home every weekend...i laughed and said no no. and i had to explain what the college experience is like in the states.

i also got to explain the greek system to my cousin....lots of fun.

anyway the next day i watched the latest vampire diaires online...o wow. drama. and then my aunt came with me to introduce myself to the newspaper and establish my hours and my role. ..i was terrified. after that i went on some errends with my aunt and then she dropped me off at my cousins kids chior where i helped out. they made me sing...i cant sing. so tramatizing. expecially when my aunt prefaces it with giving the kids permission to laugh at me. hahha.

the kids were cute though.

anyway after that ended i helped my cousin pack up and we went to my aunts. i then helped my aunt with lunch...which was served say around like 2 pm. after that my other uncle and aunt stopped by for a bit. then i chatting a bit online and took a nap. then OFF TO THE NEWSPAPER

i was terrified. i get there and theyre ready to assign me a story just like that...with interviewing ppl in spanish and everything. i was tramatized i said i think it would be best to shadow someone first and then give me a story to make sure i do it right. she said okay. so she introduced me to the staff...its small the whole newspaper is not even the size of the news staff at the daily. theres like 3 main journalist that do the majority of the work. they also dont byline their articles..which is kinda strange but whatever.

they assigned me four stories. they get press releases and when they do they either directly print that (which again is dif from what im used to) or they make an article based on the press release....kinda like the blogs on the daily's website. anyway so i did four of those, with one of them where i had to give contextual info by looking at old articles.

anyway. i also shadowed a reporter, her name was mariana, very nice lady, as she went to cover and event with two photogs.

i was there at the paper from 4:30 to like 10 pm. no dinner break. i brought snacks but i was starving by then. i then called a cab..first time ever doing that alone..and waited for it clutching my kubaton and mace in my pocket as i waited and then got in teh cab. the guy looks at me and is like your not from around here are you? soo then he found out i live in the states and started speaking english to me. then i get to my aunts...cross my fingers that shes home and she was. and yay! i made it all on my own. HUGE D. then i had dinner...two different plates. i told her she should be happy i never eat so much. and then we had some wine to celebrate.

after that i just chilled a bit, uploaded pictures and skyped with some ppls.

then today my cousin stopped by to say hello. my aunt showed me what ill be doing for the music class, i watched gossip girl, showered, and now im waiting for lunch! yum yum.

after that ill probs do music and then come 430 back to the paper for another adventure!!

first few days in argentina!

okay.

so this is the first chance i get to blog but i a am now in the land where wild penguins roam free!

Backing up tho to the beginning of my trip. i spent the whole day in airports...which sucks bc i am not a fan of airports at all. anyway. once i got on the flight to go to buenos aires i find that i dont one of those personal tv things...but its okay because the seat next to me was empty and they played leap year, which was an incredibly cute movie!! and after that was over i was actually able to fall asleep.

finally, come 7 am im in argentina! i go thru with my argentine passport so i got to skip over the long tourist line. yay. i then grab my suitcases and make my way to my grandmas house. i put the suitcases and stuff down and she asks if i want to go with her to do some erronds...so i go after getting more caffinated. then come 2 ish we have lunch and then i pass out of tiredness until 4. i get dressed and go off to a book fair where i went to listen to a free lecture by my future professor so he'd know who i was and stuff. after that my grandma and i went to met up with my cousin, madga, and get some coffee/smoothies. after that we took the subway back to my grandmas i helped with dinner, watched some tv and passed out.

come morning i went to get a hair trim and on my walk back to my grandmas, all alone, some guy with a kid tried to get into the same appartment building i had just unlocked. i asked if he had a key and he got all pissed at me. lala, my grandma, says i did the right thing tho.

anyway later that day some of my cousins stopped by and i hung out with them for a bit got some pasteries, drank mate, and then back to my grandmas.

Shes adorable, talks and talks and talks, and trys to fatten me up. everytime she sees me shes offering me food and when i say no bc im full she gets upset.

after that i went to the airport around 9 pm go to my gate and wait until like 11. then board the plane for rio gallegos..aka way way way south.

here i am! i have my own room in my aunts house, and they have wifi in the house which is awesome. i also got to meet my cousins baby. shes 2. very cute. but i dont think she likes me yet...she just glares at me and gets all shy and runs away. then her brother came whos 5 and they started bickering nonstop. entertaining.

later today my cousin, romi, is gonna stop by and show me around and after that were gonna go to my uncles house for asado...argentine bbq. delish!
